Modeling of Water Flow and Contaminant Transport in Horizontal Subsurface-flow Constructed Wetlands
Horizontal subsurface-flow constructed wetlands (HF CWs) represented a very complex mixture of water, substrate, plants, litter, and microorganisms,in which a large number of simultaneous biological processes happened simultaneously.A complete description of such a complex system involving mutually dependent physical, chemical, and biological reactions is nearly impossible.By using Visual MODFLOW a numerical tool that can capture at least the main process of such a complex system was developed. And this would be helpful to analyze and study the various transient processes operative in HF CWs.Simulation results indicated that the hydraulic load was an important parameter for the operation of the wetlands. Results can provide effective information for project of constructed wetlands.
