Design and Implementation of Twin-Rotor Tail-Sitter UAV

This paper proposes a new type of design method to improve the performance of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV),which combines twin-rotor tail-sitter Vertical Take-off and Landing (VTOL) UAV system with vector motor frames.Firstly, the three-dimensional shape of UAV body is established by CATIA software,3D printer is also used to process parts of motor frames.Furthermore, this paper analyzes flight control principles and tilting characteristics of this VTOL UAV,a small scale MPC5534 controller chip is built as the main flight control platform, the transplant of Mavlink communication protocol is also implemented and connected with Qground ground station. Finally,a new hanging plan of tethering test successfully proves the tilting efficiency. The results show that the new configuration of VTOL UAV system has simple mechanism, compact shape, and reliable performance, thus it can be widely used in the fields of research and application.
