Ground-Enhanced Ultrawideband Single-Polarized Tightly Coupled Dipole Array
with the urgent need of high speed data transmission, ultra wideband antenna arrays have been widely used in wireless communication. In most cases, the array consists of several ultra wideband unit antennas. However, the strong coupling effect between the unit antennas may deteriorate the radiation pattern of an array, even leading to a poor radiation efficiency. Therefore, the mutual coupling between elements should be suppressed. In this paper,a new type of array based on the concept of current sheet array (CSA) proposed by Wheeler is introduced. This type of antenna utilize the coupling between unit antennas to achieve a wide bandwidth of 4︰1.The measured normalized array patterns at typical operating frequencies for the ±60° broadside scanning cases. These cases show beam scanning capabilities to large angles from broadside over a wide frequency band.
