FEM prediction of residual stress in the girth-welding joint on the steam generator for 1000MW pressurized water reactor nuclear power plant
Residual stress associated with the welding can play a major role in crack development of steam generator. The element birth and death technology and a sequentially coupling finite element analysis procedure were utilized to simulate the weld metal filling process and the welding temperature and to predict the residual stress in the cylinder to head weld and Heat Affect Zone (HAZ).The results indicated that complex residual stresses induced by welding were generated in the weld and HAZ.Among the residual stress components, hoop stress was larger than the other stress components relatively. The inner surface of the cylinder was the weak area of the part selected and needed to be paid more attention. When the welding line energy preheating temperature increased, the peak residual stresses in the structure decreased. And changing preheating temperature and groove degree had little effect on the residual stresses.
