Tenovas Intelligent i BOF(R) Slop Detection System (SDS) Technology
Tenovas SDS technology incorporates lance vibration analysis with real-time alerts to give steelmakers advance warning of slop events as well as a measurement of the slop severity. The SDS system can be configured to dynamically mitigate the effects of a slop by direct feedback control of lance position and oxygen flow rate to allow for a proactive response in advance of the slop instead of the traditional reactive approach taken after the slop becomes visible to the operators.Recent work confirms that the total annual costs of slopping from the maintenance, materials, yield and productivity perspective are well over six figures. In addition, conservative blowing practices designed to prevent slops in advance have a significant impact on productivity. The SDS system has been improved allowing for different sets of configuration parameters to be automatically loaded according to the calculated risk of slopping for the current heat. The risk of slopping is calculated on the bases of static and dynamic vessel and process related parameters(HM composition and weight). This improvement increases the effectiveness of the detection and system intervention and has been shown to reduce the rate of false alarms.
