Process Integration in the Iron and Steel Industry from a Consultants Perspective
Consulting is all about giving objective suggestions to improve the actual situation of a client.In the iron and steel industry,the range of consulting activities reaches from strategic advisory on corporate level,down to recommendations for operational practice.A primary concern for all the services is: Do the proposed suggestions truly consider all consequences of the entire plant? This is even more complicated to answer,if the impact on farther related production units has to be quantified.To understand the global dependencies and to objectively demonstrate the benefits of proposed measures,Horst Wiesinger Consulting has developed a new tool.The Performance Visualization Model(PVM)interactively connects all main production facilities of an integrated steel plant and visualizes impacts on the scale of an entire plant complex.In this paper the functionality of the PVM is described in detail and applications in the consulting business discussed.
