Study on Active Lime Carbonation

  In order to prevent active lime from absorbing water from the air,laboratory experiments of surface passivation of active lime have been carried out in conditions of different temperatures(700℃,600℃,500℃,400℃ and 300℃)and CO2 pressure((PCO =1atm,PCO =0.5atm and PCO =0.3atm).After carbonation,properties of active lime had been test.It can be concluded from the experiments result that active lime carbonation reaction goes fast when reaction temperature is above 500℃.The result also reveals that active limes anti-pressing increase a lot(from 10.2kg to 22.2kg)in condition of passivation degree reaching 8%by weight.It also shows out that active lime without carbonation absorbs water from the air more easily compared with the active lime after carbonation.When D reaches 8%,active limes absorbing water can be greatly slowed down.Meanwhile,its activity is lowered by 15%from 386ml to 327ml,which still satisfies the national technical requirements for active lime.This study result has practical sense for the active lime producers which have a long way to transport their lime to steelmaking plants.
