Structure Evolution of Fe-13wt.%Mn Strip Prepared by Near Rapid Solidification

  The previous work showed that high property Fe-Mn alloy strips could be directly obtained by near rapid solidification technique without any heating and rolling treatment,suggesting a potential energy saving,high efficiency method to produce high performance materials.In this paper,the structure evolution along the thickness direction of Fe-13wt.%Mn alloy prepared by near rapid solidification was investigated.The results revealed that the structure was clearly divided into columnar grain zone and equiaxed grain zone.Phase analysis presented that both of α-martensite (BCC structure) and α-martensite (HCP structure) phases were formed.The α-martensite phase was distributed throughout the whole strip.However,the α-martensite phase was only found in the center.Furthermore,the measured average lath width of α-martensite was about 211nm in the center and 157nm near the surface,respectively.As for the α-martensite phase,only 6.9nm was achieved.
