The Influence of Na2O on the Solidification and Crystallization Behavior of CaO-SiO2-Al2O3-Based Mold Flux
In order to obtain the mold flux with good lubricating during continuous casting of high Al steels, the effect of Na2O on the solidification and crystallization behavior needs to be researched. In this study,a CaO-SiO2-Al2O3-based mold flux containing 6.5wt%Li2O was designed and investigated using the single hot thermocouple technique(SHTT)and the double hot thermocouple technique(DHTT).In addition, the slag film obtained by the heat flux simulator was analyzed using X-Ray diffraction(XRD).The results indicated that the solid fraction of molten slag(Fs)and the crystalline fraction of solid slag(Fc)in the films decrease with the increase in Na2O content from 0 wt%to 2wt%.However,Fs and Fc increased when the Na2O content increased from 2wt%to 6wt%.The continuous cooling rate initially decreases and then increases with the increasing Na2O content,however,Na2O had little influence on incubation time.XRD analysis results showed that LiAlO2 and CaF2 were the basic crystals for all the mold fluxes.Increasing the Na2O content both inhibits the Ca2Al2SiO7 formed and promotes the production of Ca12Al14O33.This suggests that the mold lubrication deteriorated due to the high melting point phase formation and the strong crystallization tendency. Therefore,it was concluded that the addition of Na2O was less than 2wt%in the CaO-SiO2-Al2O3-based mold flux, which was likely to suppress crystallization and enhance mold lubrication.
