Development of High Basicity Mold Fluxes for Peritectic Steel Continuous Casting
With rapid development of steel-making industry, continuous casting of peritectic steel is facing new challenges continually: Temperature over meniscus region becomes more nonuniform during large section(wide and thick)slab continuous casting; Traditional slab and thin slab continuous casting require increasing casting speed; Hot charge for coil or plate production require zero-crack slab. All of those require mold fluxes a more complicated and fully functional role in continuous casting. As traditional peritectic steel CC mold fluxes cannot coordinate heat transfer control and slab shell lubrication,a new concept of high basicity mold fluxes is presented in this paper. Therefore, compared with traditional ones, new mold fluxes hold high basicity and high lubricity the two technical characteristics in one slag.High basicity can enhance heat transfer control capacity over meniscus region and prevent crack formation.High lubricity can prevent sticking or breakout in CC process.Related commercial applying reveals: compared with traditional mold fluxes, novel high basicity mold fluxes presented in this work can decrease longitudinal crack ratio obviously and the consumption of new mold fluxes is almost at the same level as traditional one.
