Melting Properties and Viscosity of the SiO2-CaO-Al2O3-B2O3-MxOy (MxOy: Na2O, TiO2, or MgO) System
This paper studies the effects of Na2O(6-10wt%),TiO2(2-6wt%),and MgO(2-4wt%)on melting properties and viscosities of the SiO2-CaO-Al2O3-B2O3 system with the CaO/SiO2 ratio varied from 0.8 to 1.5 and B2O3 content fixed at 7wt%.The effects of CaO/SiO2 ratio and concentrations of Na2O,TiO2,and MgO on these physicochemical properties were complicated, depending on different oxide additions. The experimental viscosity was in a good agreement with calculated viscosity using the modified NPL model. The results of this investigation provide a basis for understanding and design of fluorine-free boracic mould fluxes for steel continuous casting process.
