Modeling of the Trajectory of Slag and Metal Chemistry during Ladle Treatment Used to Predict Changes in the Primary Inclusion Type
A coupled reaction model has been developed to describe the kinetics of the ladle metallurgy process and has been validated using plant data. The model is shown to offer excellent prediction of the trajectory of slag and metal chemistry.Extending the model to include a detailed mechanism and kinetics for inclusion transformation shows that it is possible to predict the transition from alumina to spinel inclusions. The model prediction shows good agreement with analysis of inclusion samples taken at different stages in the heat.
