Numerical Study of the Molten Steel Flow and Inclusion Behavior in the SEN and Mold when Using a Half Type EMSFG

The influence of the swirl flow on the fluid flow and inclusion behavior in the submerged entry nozzle(SEN)and mold was studied. This swirl flow was generated by using a half type electromagnetic swirl flow generator(EMSFG).The results show that an imbalance flow was generated at the EMSFG inlet. However, the imbalanced flow cannot cause a negative influence on the continuous casting process. Moreover, compared to the no swirl case, the penetration depths of the main stream of molten steel from the SEN outlet was reduced for a half type EMSFG case.In addition, from the view point of inclusion removal to the meniscus,it was found that a swirl flow greatly promotes a separation of inclusions to the mold flux.
