Comparision of Inclusion Modification for Mg or Ca-Treated Steels
In this present study, the industrial tests were conducted in 120 tons ladle to evaluate the difference of inclusion modification during Mg or Ca addition, respectively. The results showed that alumina was modified to spinel after Mg addition 3 min.The T.O value decreased from 0.0030%-0.0040%to 0.0012%-0.0015%before and after Mg addition. However, the removal ratio of T.O was only about 30%for Ca-treated steels. The inclusions in Mg-treated steels were much finer than that of Ca-treated steels. So,Mg treatment has the greater advantages for improving steel cleanliness during ladle refining.Since the mass attractive force is not the only dominating force for inclusion agglomeration, the interfacial behavior between inclusions and molten steel should be paid enough attentions.
