Research on Inclusion Modification of Magnesium Treatment in H13 Die Steel
The effect of Mg treatment on inclusions in H13 die steel has been tested and studied. The modification of the inclusions by magnesium in H13 die steel was investigated based on thermodynamic analysis of FactSage, metallography and SEM-EDS.The result shows that the inclusions changed from Al2O3 to MgO?Al2O3 and the precipitation locations of complex inclusions were changed after magnesium treatment. The amount of inclusions with size of around 1μm increased and those larger than 2μm was decreased after magnesium treated. The change of particle size was more obvious with higher magnesium content. In the condition that aluminum content ranges between 0.01%to 0.03%,all MgO?Al2O3 were modified to MgO inclusions when magnesium content is larger than 101×10–6.The amount of MgO-Al2O3 in liquid steel reaches the maximum when the mass fraction of magnesium is in the range of 30×10–6-55×10–6.
