AlN Precipitates in High Permeability Non-Oriented Silicon Steels
A characteristic of AlN precipitates in a high permeability non-oriented silicon steel was investigated.The morphology and characteristics of AlN in each production step was evaluated by means of chemical analysis,electrolytic etching method and aumatic scanning SEM.The number density,size,location,morphology and composition of precipitates were obtained.Four types of fine AlN precipitates were observed: irregular pure AlN precipitates,compound precipitates of AlN and oxide,compound precipitates of AlN and sulfide,compound precipitates of AlN,oxide and sulfide.Fine particles precipitated at the edge of grain boundaries.The generation mechanisms of these four kinds of particles were discussed.Pure AlN and the compound particle of AlN and oxide were the main precipitates and with the size of 1-3μm.AlN was confirmed to precipitate in the γ-α transformed region which occurred during cooling after hot rolling.It was believed that fine AlN precipitates played an important role in the secondary recrystallization process.Theoretical calculation of Ostwald ripening of AlN precipitates indicated that holding temperature and holding time were the main factors influencing the growth of AlN particles.
