Research on Arcing Characteristics of AC Contactor Breaking Processes based on Statistics

  The paper investigates arcing characteristics of breaking processes of AC contaetors according to current and voltage waveforms between contacts from a statistical point of view.A large number of current and voltage waveforms of breaking processes are captured and paired during AC-4 tests, and multiple models of AC contactors are tested.Each waveform pair is analyzed to calculate the arcing characteristics of the breaking process, including the arcing phase, energy, power and duration.Then the paper investigates and illustrates the following topics via statistical analysis on all computed arcing characteristics: the variation of the arcing characteristics upon the arcing phase at the same testing timestamp;the influence on the arcing characteristics caused by differences between AC contactor models;the variation of the arcing characteristics along with the increasing operation quantity.
