Effects of WC on the Property of Copper Based Contact Materials
This article reports on an experimental study of the effects of WC on the property of copper based contact materials.The copper based electric contact materials were obtained by powder metallurgy at a high pressure (500 MPa) at a temperature(1073K) for 60min at 0.1Pa in a furnace.In this paper, the effects of addition of WC on the performance of copper based contact materials were studied by arc erosion testing and SEM in details.The properties of arc-resistance of the samples are significantly improved.The hardness of the samples increases with adding proper amount of WC.Adding 2-4 wt.% WC the hardness of the sample reaches the maximum.The compactness and electrical conductivity of the samples decline with the content of WC added.Moreover, the mechanism of the effects was discussed.
