Study on Change in People Responsible for, Starting with Its Formation, and on Transitions in Forming City Landscapes

The aim of the present study was to clarify the transition in conserved historic areas in Kazusa Ichinomiya, which originated in the Goto street market from the Edo era, and to clarify the inheritance of everyday culture. The investigation started with the history of Ichinomiya, in Chiba Prefecture, using old maps, photos, and relevant literature. The scope of investigation was the regular street market, started 1606, followed by the development of a particular type of fishing at Kujukurihama beach, as well as the use of horse carriages for seafood transport in Ichinomiya within Choseibun, Yamatake, Isumi, and Ichihara, with reference to the town history of Ichinomiya, old maps, photos, and relevant literature. The fishermen prospered due to people from surrounding towns coming by, and this led to the development of local culture and as well as the development of the town itself, which took shape in the late 1700s.In line with this, other businesses developed in the area, such as hairdressers.Further, the local fishermen who became prosperous also became patrons of writers, painters, and scholars.Visits by intellectuals to the area led to the development of a town called East Oiso, within Kujukuri beach. We concluded that the main factors leading to the cultural development of the Boso District were the market in Ichinomiya, the rich class and the visiting intellectuals.Since that time, there was an inheritance of culture and exchanges of population with local districts of Edo.
