RISK INFORMED DECISION IN DAM SAFETY MANAGEMENT
This paper discusses a risk-based strategy for planning rehabilitation of distressed dams.Causes of dam distresses are described first based on the data in a Chinese distressed dam database.Deterioration of dams and planning of dam rehabilitation are then discussed on a quantitative risk assessment basis. Finally, the use of the ALARP (As-Low-As-Reasonably-Practicable) principle is recommended in developing risk-based dam safety criteria.
