INVESTIGATION ON THE PERFORMANCE OF GRADED SLAG CEMENTS
This study investigates the compressive strength and autogenous shrinkage of graded slag cement-based materials. The slag cements prepared separately by using the fine, middle and coarse fractions of blast furnace slag (BFS) to replace the fine, middle and coarse fractions of Portland cement are defined as graded slag cements. The compressive and flexural strengths of slag cement mortars, and the chemical shrinkages and autogenous shrinkages of slag cement pastes were determined by experiments. The hydration of slag cements were simulated by HYMOSTRUC3D.The results indicate that the graded slag cement blended with fine BFS exhibits low autogenous shrinkage of paste at 3 days, and high compressive strength of mortar at 28 days. The particle size distributions of graded slag cements were changed, which altered the hydration process. In consequence, the performance of graded slag cement was optimized.
