DURABILITY QUALITY CONTROL FOR IMMERGED TUBE CONCRETE THROUGH AIR PERMEABILITY AND ELECTRICAL RESISTANCE MEASUREMENT

This paper reports the in-situ non-destructive tests through air permeability and electrical resistance measurements on the prefabricated segments of immerged tube tunnel for the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau sea link project. The paper reviews first the theory basis for the devices of air permeability (Torrent Method) and electrical resistance (Wenner Method), discussing influential factors on these measurements. The obtained data of air permeability kT and electrical resistivity ρ are analysed for their statistical parameters and the influence of the main factors. The kT values show the tube segments have low permeability with low variability for 56d measurements but the values are not strongly influenced by temperature or water content. The ρ values are stable and correlated strongly with age of testing. The kT and ρ values are inversely correlated, but in a qualitative way. Then, a tentative double parameter criterion is proposed using the kT-ρ couples and their statistical parameters to evaluate the durability quality of in-situ structural concrete.
