AN EXPERIMENTAL STUDY OF THE BOND PERFORMANCE OF THE INTERFACE BETWEEN NEAR-SURFACE-MOUNTED CFRP STRIPS AND CONCRETE

  The bond performance of the interface between the FRP and the concrete is a key problem of the technique of strengthening reinforced concrete structures with near surface mounted FRP.However, it is still not well understood.In the present paper, a total of 34 single shear specimens, which consisted of the concrete prisms and the NSM CFRP strips, were manufactured and the pull-out tests were carried out.The failure mode, the bond capacity, and the CFRP strain distribution of the specimens were investigated, and the influences of the concrete strength, the bond length, the groove width, and the distance between the groove side and the specimen edge on the bond behavior of the NSM FRP-concrete interface were analyzed.It can be concluded fRom the test results that, the bond performance of the CFRP-concrete interface is improved with the concrete strength.The increase of the bond length of CFRP strips leaded to the improvement of the bond capacity and till that the failure mode transformed from interface debonding to rupture of CFRP.Thus it seems that the effective bond length does not exist in the NSM system.Moreover, there is residual friction between CFRP and concrete after interface debonding, which increases with the bond length.Though the bond capacity of specimen increased with the groove width, the influence of the groove width on the bond behavior between the NSM FRP and the concrete is not significant.The too small distance between the groove and the edge of specimen reduced the bond capacity and even resulted in a splitting failure of the concrete comer.When the distance exceeded 40 mm the bond behavior the specimens tended to stability.
