A Study on the Revitalization of old Community Corridor through Urban Morphological Analysis
Rapidly growing city has made people watch with deep concern about how to keep the old and traditional urban space in the modern urban structure.Regretting the indiscreet and uniformed urban development that used to neglect traditional and ordinary urban structure, and recognizing the crisis that the value of traditional urban space and structure lasting for hundreds years is to be erased by the development, the local governments began to exhibit theirpassive tactic and alternative policies against a contradiction between development and preservation.Even though some historic relics are damaged or replaced due to urbanization, however, a way of seeing such occurrences a part of history might be needed instead of blind blame.Interwoven by traditional and globally modern city structure, todays Seoul has possessed the spatial boundaries within the city, a so called a gap, through such diverse layers of time. When the mega city structure meets the traditional one, however, old and traditional urban networks usually become lagging behind, and designated to be a target of grand-scale uniformed urban development. The study intends to grope for any possible schemes solving the disparity occurred in between tradition and new urban structure, preserving the old as a part of the present urban spatial layers, and adjusting the traditional city block to modern city in terms of spatial structure.
