Thermal performance evaluation of stone and metal finish systems considering thermal bridges

Recently, many countries have set the goal to reduce greenhouse gas emission. To achieve the target, it is essential to minimize repeated thermal bridges, which cause substantial heat loss through the building envelope. However, thermal bridging effects are not considered when calculating U-value.The aim of this study was to analyze the influence of thermal bridging effects on the insulation performance in terms of the energy performance and inside surface condensation risk.Three dimensional steady-state heat transfer simulation was performed for the four type of envelop system covered with metal and stones.Heat losses of envelop systems with and without thermal bridges were calculated and compared.
