A Study on the Sustainable Use of the Forest Biomass Energy with Considering Satoyama Use Model in the Rural Area

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the potential of using forest biomass energy for heating in housing with considering Satoyama Use Model in Sera Town. The evaluation steps are as follows: 1) Building the Satoyama Use Model by using the GIS data that represent the forest conditions.2) Setting 25 cutting cases and estimating the amount of usable forest biomass for each case.3) Calculating the possible heat supply in the case of using the forest biomass as source and comparing them with the total heat demand in houses.Similarly, calculating the possible CO2 reduction and comparing them with the target value of CO2 reduction from 2011 to 2012 that is made by local government. As results, the energy supply will be more than the thermal demand and the possible CO2 reduction will be 7 times of the target value of CO2 reduction in 18 cases. In conclusion, it can be said that enough heat supply and CO2 reduction will be possible in the case of considering Satoyama Use Model in the tree cutting.
