A complex variable solution for arbitrary deformations around a circular tunnel in an elastic half plane
Using Mobius transformation, the region of exclusion of a hole in a elastic half plane was mapped conformally onto a cirque.Then the analytic functions could be expanded as Laurent series in this region.The stresses and displacements under given displacement could be solved by the complex method founded by Muskhelishvili.An arbitrary ground deformation pattern was assumed as the displacement boundary condition around the tunnel section and a solution for arbitrary deformations around a circular tunnel was deduced in this paper.By the case studies, the influence of distortion and vertical translation on surface settlement and horizontal displacement were investigated.The results indicated that distortion has a greater effect on soil deformation than that brought by vertical translation.
