Improvement of bauxite quality by X-Ray radiometric sorting

  Problem of declining of bauxite grade is now becoming a global scenario.That is why for many years, scientists have been studying problem of bauxite beneficiation.Complexity of bauxite mineralogy, high content of alumina and process limitations often make use of traditional beneficiation techniques ineffective.Application of different kinds of radiation sensors jointly with sorting techniques was intensively studied in Russia, resulting in development of new direction of X-Ray ore sorting.Currently this is a separate direction of beneficiation widely and selectively tested and applied for lump separation of different ore types, including bauxites.This can be used for improvement of alumina content, reduction of silica and carbonate/sulfur in bauxites.The paper shows feasibility to use this technique for improvement of quality of low grades bauxites located in Urals, Russia and analyses potential applicability of this method to other bauxites of the world.
