Improvement of sandy alumina production by hydrocyclone
Since the beginning of 1970s, in the demand of environment protection and energy saving, especially with the central point feeding material, and with the use of floating calcinations technique, the properties of alumina have been required strictly.The powdery alumina that had prevailed in Europe-Asia has been replaced by sandy alumina.The sandy alumina also has many advantages such as strong intensity, high activation, low alpha alumina content, high absorption of HF and etc.This paper studies the importance of hydrocyclones in production of sandy alumina.The research shows that solids content of feeding slurry and amount of particles +45tm in feed are influencing factors of classification effect.Basic designs for cluster and flow sheet of classification to achieve an optimal classification effect are also discussed in this paper.In the biggest alumina refinery of East China, AKW A+V used the special combination of two stages hydrocyclones in the alumina trihydrate grading process.The results of industrial debug show that it is effective to improve classifying effect and respond to periodical attenuation through 2-stage classification.
