Surface hardening of cold work tool steels as an energy efficient alternative to furnace heat treatment

　　This article describes some aspects and possible applications of surface hardening on tool steels.Thereby the potential advantages as well as limitations with regard to different tooling applications are evaluated.Especially the heat treatment of tools for forming and cutting applications offers a potential for energy savings.
