Simulation of rain effects on aerodynamic performance of an airfoil
The trajectories of raindrops in the flow field around NACA 0012 airfoil were tracked with Discrete Phase Model in Computational Fluid Dynamics soft FLUENT6.3.26.The impingement property of airfoil surfaces and characteristic parameters of water film were calculated with FORTRAN.On this basis,rain effect on aerodynamic performance of an airfoil was simulated through artificial simulation of water film and introduction of roughness into wall boundary.Then comparison of these results was made with experimental tests.It is concluded that when angle of attack is smaller than or equal to 8°,no obvious rain effects is made on aerodynamic performance of an airfoil; while angle of attack is larger than 8°,water film and film roughness on airfoil surfaces due to rain can cause lift coefficient decrease,drag coefficient increase and early stall.
