The aerodynamic characteristics of micro quadrotor in hovering near walls
The purpose of this study is to investigate wall effects on the aerodynamic characteristics of micro quadrotor in hovering.The fluid forces acted on the hovering quadrotor near the side wall are measured by a 6 axis force torque sensor and the surface flow of rotor blades is visualized by an oil-film technique.It is found that the fluid forces of hovering quadrotor depend on the distance from the quadrotor to the side wall.Especially,in a certain distance from the side wall,the lift of quadrotor is increased more than 5%and the negative rotational moment acts on the hovering quadrotor.It is considered that the lift of the only two rotors close to the side wall increases more than that of the other two rotors.Because the surface flow on the suction side of rotor blades close to the side wall separates downstream compared to that of the other two rotors by circulation flow.
