Numerical Study of Active Flow Control on a Vertical Tail
The application of active flow control on a vertical tail of a commercial airplane is investigated. The vertical tail uses a symmetry airfoil with 10%thickness and has a rudder at 33%of its chord.Blowing jet on the rudder is used and the effect is evaluated using the numerical methods. The in-house CFD solver named NSAWET is employed in the present calculations.Computational results show that, when the flow conditions are Ma∞=0.2 and Rec=6.5e6/m,active flow control with blowing jet of 错误!未找到 引用源.C μ=0.8%can effectively increase the side force by up to 5%,especially at the high sideslip angle when the flow is completely separated at the rudder surface. The principle is studied by side force coefficient, flow pattern, velocity contour and so on.
