The mechanism of expanding the protection zone with long-distance-lower protective seam

  According to the geologic condition and excavating techniques of DONG SI district in PANSAN mine, through stress-damage-flow coupling model, the evolution mechanism of stress, gas permeability and deformation in the protected coal seam are investigated with using the method of numerical simulation and field test.The results show that there are five zones in the protected coal seam during the far-distance-lower protective seam mining, which are unaffected zone, pressure rising zone, minor pressure reducing zone, major pressure reducing zone,compression zone.Because there is the minor pressure reducing zone, it provides the theoretical basis of expanding the protection zone.In the process of protective seam mining, the stress in protected seam decreases and generates swelling deformation, which leads to that the gas permeability increases 30 times in the minor pressure reducing zone more than the primitive coal seam, consequently the aim of expanding the protection zone can be achieved cooperating with the intensive drilling holes in the nearly horizontal coal seam.
