Whats the Way Ahead? Theory, Practice and Prospects in Yak Breeding

　　This paper outlines a systematic yak breeding schemes involving purebred breeding,crossbreeding of wild yak with domestic yak and hybridization of yak with other species cattle in a process of breed development.After a comprehensive review of the literature exploring the new technology of molecular breeding, we provides a sample of exploring of marker-assisted selection in the Datong yak may also provide a basis for improving the other yak species, further analyzing the problems that exist in the current yak breeding.It offers fresh insights into the yak breeding industry should be based on field practice, and combined with the optimization of modern molecular breeding techniques through traditional breeding to contribute to make significant yak breeding progress.To better exploit the advantages of hybridization, the paper proposes the future major research direction and emphasis of Polled yaks.
