The Effect of Supplementary Feeding on Birth Weight and Weaned Weight on Plateau Yak in Late Pregnancy and Lactation Period
The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of supplementation of concentrate and hay on yak in late pregnancy and lactation period.Sixty pregnant yaks were randomly divided into control group(CP, n =30) and experimental group(EP, n =30).Animals in CP were free grazing, while animals in EP were supplementarily feed 1 kg concentrate and 2 kg hay per day on last 60 days of pregnancy and first 120 days of lactation.The results showed that body weight gain in EP was 13.5 kg more than that of in CP.Birth weight and four months weight of calf in EP were 3.5 kg and 21.8 kg higher than that of in CP(P <0.01).
