Epidemiological Survey of 8 Infectious Diseases of Yak in the Northwest Sichuan Province

The objective of this study was to investigate the prevalences of 8 infectious diseases of yak in the northwest Sichuan province, and take effective measures to prevent these infectious diseases of yak in this region. The antibodies of yak serum samples from the northwest Sichuan province were detected by competitive enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay to investigate prevalence of infectious bovine rhinotracheitis (IBR), bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) and bovine rotaviruss (BRV), bovine coronavirus (BCV), bovine brucellosis, bovine tuberculosis, bovine paratuberculosis and neospora caninum. The results showed that 356 samples were detected IBRV antibody positive and the average positive rate was 77.4% (356/460) in the 460 yak serum samples.474 samples were detected BVDV antibody positive and the average positive rate was 44.3% (474/1 070) in the 1 070 yak serum samples.1 010 samples were detected BRV antibody positive and the average positive rate was 94.4% (1 010/1 070) in the 1 070 yak serum samples.900 samples were detected BCV antibody positive and the average positive rate was 84.1% (900/1 070) in the 1 070 yak serum samples.272 samples were detected bovine brucellosis antibody positive and the average positive rate was 25.4% (272/1 070) in the 1 070 yak serum samples. One sample was detected bovine tuberculosis antibody positive and the average positive rate was 0.67% (1/1 070)in the 1 070 yak serum samples.65 samples were detected neospora caninum antibody positive and the average positive rate was 6.1% (65/1 070) in the 1 070 yak serum samples, and none sample was detected bovine paratuberculosis antibody positive in the 180 yak serum samples.Except bovine paratuberculosis, the other 7 infectious diseases of yaks were widespread in the northwest Sichuan province, great attentions should be drawn and effective measures should be taken to prevent and control these diseases.
