Contrasting effects of mixed grazing on soil spatial heterogeneity in the grasslands with different plant diversity
Large herbivores can strongly impact variation and spatial structure of soil N.The aim of this study was to examine whether and how herbivore assemblages affected soil N spatial heterogeneity. We found that different herbivore assemblages gazing brought a diverse effect on soil heterogeneity under different plant diversity context.Single grazing by cattle or sheep and mixed grazing of cattle and sheep consistently increased the spatial heterogeneity of soil N at high plant diversity grasslands. However, at low plant diversity grassland context, we found a positive effect for sheep single grazing, and negative effect for mixed grazing, and no obvious effects for cattle single grazing, respectively.
