The current status and prospects of grassland for sustainable agriculture in Korea
Grassland research was started by introducing improved grasses in Kwonupmobeomjang.In early days, the studies were conducted mainly native grasses.The KGGRP (Korean-Germany Grassland Research Project) had carried out a systematic study of grassland and is thought to be a renaissance period of grassland research.The grassland areas were peaked in 1990 with 90,000 ha and now continued to shrink area of 40,000 ha.Fortunately, from 2014, government plans to be accomplished the sustainable agriculture in hilly pasture and enlarge the supporting scale in grassland area.To invigorate the grassland agriculture, they also push forward several policies that making a basis of creating profits, lifting restrictions on grassland establishment, strengthen consulting and public-relations for hilly pasture.To success the grassland establishment in Korea, it is important that development of new varieties, response to paradigm change of grassland, development and extension of various techniques and positive attitude of farm.
