Effects of water and nitrogen addition on net ecosystem carbon exchange in a meadow steppe
Changes in precipitation and nitrogen (N) deposition can influence terrestrial ecosystem carbon (C) cycling and budget. The effects of predicted increase in precipitation and nitrogen on net ecosystem carbon exchange were measured in Songnen meadow steppe in 2012 and 2013.Results indicated that N addition significantly stimulated aboveground biomass and growing-season net ecosystem CO2 exchange (NEE), but there were no significant effects of water addition on ecosystem C fluxes. For the studied meadow steppe, N availability is the primary limiting factor of ecosystem carbon cycling.
