A review on the responses of alfalfa to phosphorus addition and its mechanism
The deficiency of soil phosphorus (P) can lead to the blockage of protein synthesis, retarding plant growth while speeding up organ senescence. The consequence for a plant to live in such a condition is finally the decline in yield and quality. For alfalfa, P deficit is also an issue that it usually encounters, so P addition is an important option to maintain the productivity in the performance of alfalfa. This review summarizes the responses of alfalfa to P addition concerning forage yield and quality and shows the mechanism underlying these responses.
