Improvement of forage and energy plants by transgenesis and proteomics
Forage productivity and quality are greatly affected by abiotic stresses including soil salinity, heavy metal, drought, and extreme temperature. In this study, we developed transgenic tall fescue plants by introducing new genes, which showed multiple abiotic stress tolerances. In addition we identified several environmental stress (salt, drought, heavy metal) responsive proteins/genes by proteomic approach that could provide new insights to lead the molecular mechanisms of stress tolerance in forage and bioenergy crops.
