Lactobacillus plantarum improves the nutritional quality of Italian ryegrass with hairy vetch mediated silage
The present study was planned to analyze the nutritional quality, microbial counts and fermentative acids in Italian ryegrass 80%-hairy vetch 20% (IRG-HV) mediated silage supplemented with LAB and chlorella for forty five days under the field conditions.Nutritive values, In vitro dry matter digestibility (IVDMD), lactic acid bacteria (LAB), yeast and fungi counts, and fermentation metabolites such as lactic acid, acetic acid and butyric acids were analyzed.Result shows that the nutritive and metabolite profiles of silage significantly improved with LAB supplementation. For microbial counts, number of the LAB colony in treatments with LAB supplementation increased as compared with control silage. The pH of the silage range also reduced significantly when silage supplemented with LAB.This result confirmed that silage preparation using different crops with the supplementation of chlorella and L.plantarum inoculation is most beneficial for farmers.
