Grassland-associated culture created and maintained by a summer mountain grazing-winter housing system of Japanese Shorthorn cattle in northern Japan
This paper introduces the grassland-associated culture in Kitakami Mountains in northern Japan, and evaluates the value of semi-natural grasslands in the conservation of the culture in comparison with sown grasslands.It is concluded that preventing further decrease in semi-natural grasslands is a critical issue for future conservation of the regional culture.
