Winter cereal cultivars for feed in Korea
To enlarge cultivation area for winter cereal crops, such as barley, wheat, rye, oat and triticale breeding and research programs have been carried out in NICS.As the result of the program thirty of barley, rye, oat and triticale cultivars including recent Nokyang, Youhan, Taehan and Saeyoung, techniques for early seed production in rye, oat and triticale etc.We are developing more attractable cultivars, such as purple barley, which contains anthocyanin and is expecting anti-oxidative function and high sugar content wheat, which can make better silage.To develop ripping earlier, we will search for new earliness source from the materials including primary triticale.And to strengthen the winter hardness of oat, we will concentrate more on cold tolerance selection.
