Effect of Ultrasonic Surface Rolling Process on High pH Stress Corrosion Cracking of X80 Welded Joint

Ultrasonic surface rolling Process (USRP) was applied on X80 welded joint.Residual stress measurement, electrochemical polarization technique and slow strain rate testing were used to study the effect of USRP on stress corrosion cracking of X80 welded joint in high pH environment. The results show that residual compressive stresses is induced in surface layer of the welded joint. The free corrosion potential of welds is improved, while the corrosion current density decreases sharply.Meanwhile, the fracture time and strain increase significantly. The number and depth of cracks also decrease. The stress corrosion cracking susceptibility of X80 welded joint is reduced by USRP.
