The Application of Spectral Analysis and Blind Source Separation to Color Restoration of the Fumigated Fresco
It is very important to restore the fumigated fresco. But the tradition methods are no use, because the fumigated fresco is overall damaged by the smoke and has little normal areas.A method of color restoration for fumigated fresco is based on spectral analysis and blind source separation has been proposed. Before restoration, the spectrum database of smoked pigments is built through the smoking experiment, which can record the color change process. At the beginning of restoration, the spectral image of fumigated fresco must be obtained with the multispectral imaging system. Then, the area of fumigated fresco is divided into several parts. After that, the spectrum information in every part is regarded as the finite signal and carried out by blind source separation. Therefore, the spectrum composition of mixed pigment is obtained. Finally, the spectrum information of corresponding pigment is searched in the spectrum database of smoked pigments, and the original pigments can be found by inversion. So, the color of fumigated fresco is restored. This method can correct the restoration error result from the overall damage and the low signal-to-noise ratio, which has certain theoretical research and practical application value.
