Mechanical and electrical properties of multifunctional carbon nanotube buckypaper
Buckypaper(BP) is thin flexible CNT film which not only has the collective property of individual CNT but also gain other new functionalities due to integrity and well-organized structure. Here we fabricated buckypaper through a novel method combining modified floating-catalyst CVD technique and densification by acetone.Basic BP morphology information were characterized by scanning electron microscope(SEM).The tensile strength and Youngs modulus is as strong as 127 MPa and 2.93 GPa, respectively, due to the preferred orientation of CNTs in the buckypaper. The electrical conductivity is as high as 970 S/cm, and a nearly linear relationship between the measured change in electrical resistance and the strain was observed, which indicate the potential of buckypaper for strain sensor. In addition, the buckypaper exhibits high performance in electromagnetic shielding.
