Nano Silver Colloidal Silver Prepared by Electrical Spark Discharge and Its Antibioactivity Study
Traditional chemical synthesis methods for colloidal silver(CS)may lead to the presence of toxic chemical species or chemical residues, which may inhibit the effectiveness of colloidal silver as an antibacterial agent.Using the Electrical Spark Discharge(ESD),this study fabricated silver nanoparticles suspended in deionized water with no added surfactants using a simple electrical spark discharge method, which is an effective and environmentally friendly process. Most related researches explore the composition of nanoparticles, while ignoring ions. This study aims to identify and measure the proportion of ionic silver in ESD-CS,using conductivity meters, centrifuges, titrator, and atomic absorption spectrophotometer(AA).The experimental results showed that colloidal silver fabricated by means of the electrical spark discharge method with no added surfactants contains metallic silver nanoparticles and ionic silver.Fabrication consumes silver rods at a rate of 100 milligrams per liter, yielding metallic silver nanoparticles and ionic silver with concentrations of approximately 11.41 ppm and 20 ppm, respectively. The experiment on the antibioactivity of silver nanoparticles for athletes foot shows apparent effect. The results of yeast experiment show that the effect of an additional 100ppm of silver nanoparticles is weak; whereas, the addition of 100ppm silver nitrate has significant effect.
