The advance in technology and health care delivery has contributed to the increase of life expectancy in developing or developed countries. While the prospect of longevity is desired, the need for physical health and emotional support becomes more pronounced for the aging population.Especially for seniors who live alone, the option of having a companion animal is worth considering for potential physical and psychological benefits. The difficult task is to find an ideal animal. The goal of this empirical study is to examine the adoption records and determine whether certain variations in physical traits such as breed, color, size, age, etc.are related to greater adoption success. The results will help local shelters better allocate limited sources and formulate strategies to find more animals a permanent home.
